호주에서 온 그레이스는 서울 강남에 위치한 업계 1위 패션 기업에서 해외 마케팅 업무를 담당하고 있다.
Grace, who came from Australia, works in overseas marketing at the top fashion company in Gangnam, Seoul.

밝고 긍정적인 성격 덕분에 동료들과도 잘 지내고, 업무 성과도 인정받고 있다.
Thanks to her bright and positive personality, she gets along well with her colleagues and is recognized for her work performance.

그녀의 곁에는 든든한 지원군이자 한국 직장 생활의 조언자인 강미녀 대리가 있다.
By her side is Deputy Manager Kang Min-yeo, a strong supporter and advisor on Korean office life.

조언자 (joeonja): advisor, counselor

강미녀 대리는 과거 그레이스와 같은 회사에서 일하다가, 현재 그레이스에게 이직 제안을 한 업계 5위 패션 회사로 먼저 자리를 옮긴 경험이 있다.
Deputy Manager Kang previously worked at the same company as Grace before moving to a new job at the fifth-ranked fashion company that is now offering Grace a job.

그러던 어느 날, 강미녀 대리의 소개로 알게 된 헤드헌터로부터 솔깃한 전화 한 통을 받게 되었다.
Then one day, Grace received an enticing phone call from a headhunter she met through Deputy Manager Kang.

Headhunter: 안녕하세요, 그레이스 씨. 강미녀 대리님으로부터 연락처를 받았습니다. 혹시 새로운 커리어 기회에 관심 있으신가요?
Hello, Ms. Grace. I received your contact information from Deputy Manager Kang Min-yeo. Are you perhaps interested in new career opportunities?

GRACE: 안녕하세요. 강 대리님께는 이미 좋은 이야기를 많이 들었습니다. 어떤 기회인지 자세히 듣고 싶습니다.
Hello. I've already heard great things from Deputy Manager Kang. I'd like to hear more about the opportunity.

Headhunter: 저희 고객사에서 해외 마케팅 팀 리더 자리를 제안하고 싶어 합니다. 연봉은 현재 받으시는 것의 1.5배 수준이고요.
Our client company would like to offer you the position of Overseas Marketing Team Leader. The salary is 1.5 times your current one.

고객사 (gogaeksa): client company, customer company

GRACE: (놀라며) 1.5배요? 팀 리더 자리까지... 강 대리님 회사군요! 정말 솔깃한 제안이네요.
(Surprised) 1.5 times? And a Team Leader position... It's Deputy Manager Kang's company! That's a very tempting offer.

솔깃한 (solgithan): enticing, tempting

This is where Grace's dilemma began. The location of 'Suwon, Gyeonggi Province' was quite far from her current residence in Gangnam, Seoul, especially the convenient Yeoksam-dong.

Considering the daily commute time, it could significantly impact her quality of life.

Moreover, her current company held the stable position of being the top in the industry.

호주인의 시각으로 본 고민 (Australian Perspective)

GRACE: 강 대리님, 안녕하세요! 헤드헌터님께 좋은 제안 받았어요. 정말 감사해요. 그런데… 회사가 수원이라고 해서요. 제가 지금 역삼동에 살고 있는데, 출퇴근이 좀 걱정돼요.
Hello, Deputy Manager Kang! I received a great offer from the headhunter. Thank you so much. But... the company is in Suwon. I currently live in Yeoksam-dong, so I'm a bit worried about the commute.

강미녀: 어, 그레이스! 연락받았구나. 연봉 조건은 마음에 들었어? 수원 위치 때문에 고민이구나. 사실 나도 처음에는 그 부분이 좀 망설여졌어. 서울에서 쭉 살았으니까.
Oh, Grace! You got the call. Are you happy with the salary conditions? You're worried about the Suwon location, right? Actually, I hesitated a bit about that part myself at first. I had lived in Seoul my whole life.

GRACE: 호주에서는 보통 자기 생활 반경 안에서 직장을 구하는 걸 중요하게 생각하거든요. 이동 시간이 길면 너무 지칠 것 같아요.
In Australia, people usually consider finding a job within their living radius important. Long commute times can be very tiring.

생활 반경 (saenghwal bangyeong): living radius, vicinity

강미녀: 한국 직장인 평균 재직 기간이 길지 않아. 나도 전 회사에서 3년 좀 넘게 일하고 이직한 거고.
The average tenure of Korean office workers isn't that long. I also worked a little over three years before changing jobs.

재직 기간 (jaejik gigan): tenure, period of employment

이직 (ijik): job change, change of employment

GRACE: 그리고 지금 회사는 업계 1위잖아요. 안정적이고, 브랜드 인지도도 높고요. 새로운 회사는 5위라고 하셨는데… 문화나 안정성은 괜찮은가요?
And my current company is number one in the industry. It's stable, and the brand recognition is high. The new company is fifth... is its culture and stability okay?

강미녀: 여긴 팀 분위기도 좋고 내가 주도적으로 일할 수 있어. 연봉도 중요하지만 성장 기회도 중요하잖아? 그리고 요즘 이직 추세 보면 커리어 위해서 빠르게 움직이는 것도 괜찮아.
The team is great and I can work proactively here. Salary is important, but so is the opportunity for growth. Looking at the trend in job changes, moving fast for your career isn’t a bad thing.

GRACE: 음… 대리님 말씀을 들으니 조금 더 생각해 봐야겠네요. 수원에서의 생활은 어떤가요? 역삼동과 많이 다른가요?
Hmm... I think I need to consider it more. What’s life in Suwon like? Is it very different from Yeoksam-dong?

강미녀: 서울 중심부와는 다르지만 적응 기간 지나면 괜찮아. 수원도 편의시설 많고 공원도 많아서 살기 좋아.
It’s different from the city center, but once you adjust, Suwon is great. It has all the amenities and lots of parks, so it’s a good place to live.

GRACE: 조언 정말 감사합니다, 대리님. 덕분에 좀 더 객관적으로 생각해 볼 수 있을 것 같아요.

Through her conversation with Deputy Manager Kang, Grace fell into deeper contemplation.
