7월 7일 구미는 기상 관측 이래 최고 기온을 기록했는데 말 그대로 '살인적인 폭염' 속에 노동자들이 일한 겁니다.

On July 7th, Gumi recorded its highest temperature since meteorological observations began, meaning laborers were working in what can only be described as a 'deadly heatwave.'

경북 구미의 2,700여 가구 대규모 아파트 단지 건설 현장입니다.

This is a large-scale apartment complex construction site for over 2,700 households in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

일하는 사람이 하나도 없습니다. 중장비도 다 멈춰 섰습니다.

7월 7일 오후 5시 반쯤 이 현장에서 일하던 베트남 국적의 20대 노동자가 숨이 멎은 채 발견됐습니다.

Around 5:30 PM on July 7th, a Vietnamese worker in his 20s, who was working at this site, was found lifeless.

오후 4시, 작업이 끝난 직후 화장실에 갔다 돌아오지 못했습니다. 첫 출근날이었습니다.

At 4 PM, immediately after work ended, he went to the restroom and never returned. It was his first day on the job.

발견 당시 남성의 체온은 40.2도. 소방 당국은 온열질환으로 쓰러진 걸로 의심하고 있습니다.

At the time of discovery, the man's body temperature was 40.2 degrees Celsius. Fire authorities suspect he collapsed due to a heat-related illness.

"한국인 노동자들은 회사에 요구해서 새벽 5시부터 일하고 오후 1시에 마치면서 단축 근무를 하고 있는데 (미등록) 외국인 노동자들은 그런 것을 요구하지 못하고 가장 더운 시간대인 오후 2시, 3시 그때도 지금 일하고 있거든요. 작업을 멈추게 하고 쉬게 해줘야 는데···"
"Korean workers demanded and are working reduced hours, from 5 AM to 1 PM. However, (undocumented) foreign workers cannot make such demands and are still working during the hottest times, like 2 PM or 3 PM. They should have been made to stop work and rest..."

노동 당국은 해당 사업장에 옥외 작업을 전면 중단시키고 현장에서 폭염 안전 수칙이 잘 지켜졌는지 조사하고 있습니다.

Labor authorities have completely halted outdoor work at the site and are investigating whether heatwave safety regulations were properly observed.
