불길서 할머니 구한 스리랑카인 영주권 받아 Sri Lankan Man Who Rescued Elderly Woman from Fire Receives Permanent Residency
화재 현장에서 90대 할머니를 구했던 스리랑카 출신 이주노동자 카타빌라 니말 시리 반다라니말(38)씨(이하 니말씨)가 2018년 12월 18일, 한국 영주권을 받았다. 스리랑카인 니말씨에 대한 영주권 수여식이 이날 오전 11시 대구 동구 검사동 법무부 대구 출입국·외국인사무소에서 열렸다.
A Sri Lankan migrant worker, Mr. Katavilala Nimal Siri Bandarani Nimal (38), who had rescued a 90-year-old grandmother from a fire, received permanent residency in Korea on December 18, 2018. The ceremony for Mr. Nimal's permanent residency was held at 11 AM at the Daegu Immigration Office of the Ministry of Justice on that day.
당시 니말씨는 긴장된 표정을 보였지만, 출입국 사무소 관계자가 영주증을 건네자 기쁜 표정을 지었다.
At the time, Mr. Nimal looked nervous, but when an official from the immigration office handed him the permanent residency card, he broke into a happy expression.
니말씨는 넥타이를 맨 양복 차림으로 자리에 앉아 연신 한국에 대한 감사 표현을 했다.

법무부는 2018년 12월 13일 '외국인 인권 보호 및 권익증진협의회'를 열어 참석위원 만장일치로 니말(38)씨에게 영주자격을 주기로 결정했다.
On December 13, 2018, the Ministry of Justice held the 'Council for the Protection of Foreigners' Human Rights and Promotion of Their Interests' and unanimously decided to grant Mr. Nimal (38) permanent residency.
니말씨는 경북 군위군 한 과수원에서 일하던 2017년 2월, 과수원 인근 주택에서 불이 나자 위험을 무릅쓰고 할머니(90)를 구했다.
In February 2017, while working at an orchard in Gunwi-gun, Gyeongbuk, Mr. Nimal bravely risked his life to rescue a 90-year-old grandmother from a fire in a nearby house.
이 과정에서 그는 목과 머리, 손목 등에 2도 화상을 입고 연기를 많이 마셔 폐가 손상되었다.
In the process, he sustained second-degree burns to his neck, head, and wrists and inhaled a large amount of smoke, which damaged his lungs.

니말씨를 고용해 함께 6개월간 일했던 과수원 사장 정창식(64)씨는 "친척에게 좋은 일이 생긴 듯이 기쁘다"라고 말했다.
