1. -아/어서 (a/eoseo): 이유, 원인 (Reason, Cause)
의미: 앞 절의 내용이 뒤 절의 이유나 원인이 될 때 사용합니다. 동사나 형용사 어간에 붙여 씁니다.
Meaning: Used when the content of the preceding clause is the reason or cause for the following clause. It's attached to verb or adjective stems.
형태 (Form):
- 어간의 마지막 모음이 'ㅏ, ㅗ': -아서 (예: 가다 → 가서, 보다 → 봐서)
- Last vowel of stem is 'ㅏ, ㅗ': -aseo (e.g., gada → gaseo, boda → bwaseo)
- 어간의 마지막 모음이 'ㅏ, ㅗ' 이외: -어서 (예: 먹다 → 먹어서, 읽다 → 읽어서, 예쁘다 → 예뻐서)
- Last vowel of stem is other than 'ㅏ, ㅗ': -eoseo (e.g., meokda → meogeoseo, ikda → ilgeoseo, yeppeuda → yeppeoseo)
- '하다' 동사: -해서 (예: 공부하다 → 공부해서, 피곤하다 → 피곤해서)
- 'hada' verbs: -haeseo (e.g., gongbuhada → gongbuhaeseo, pigonhada → pigonhaeseo)
배가 고파서 밥을 먹었어요.
I ate because I was hungry.
날씨가 좋아서 기분이 좋아요.
I feel good because the weather is nice.
주의 (Caution):
- '-아/어서' 앞에는 과거 시제(-았/었-)나 미래 시제(-겠-)를 사용하지 않아요. (You don't use past tense (-at/eot-) or future tense (-get-) before '-a/eoseo'.)
- 뒤 문장에 명령문(-으세요)이나 청유문(-읍시다)을 사용할 수 없어요. 이때는 '-(으)니까'를 사용해요. (You cannot use imperative (-euseyo) or propositive (-eupsida) sentences in the following clause. In this case, use '-(eu)nikka'.)
