27일 법무부 출입국외국인정책본부에 따르면, 올해 6월 말 기준으로 국내 체류 외국인은 2,732,797명으로, 전월 대비 1.5%(40,068명) 증가했다. 이들 중 장기 체류자에 해당하는 등록 외국인과 외국국적동포 국내 거소 신고자는 각각 1,559,975명과 552,419명이다. 관광객 등 단기 체류 외국인은 620,403명으로 집계되었다.

국내 체류 외국인 수는 2019년에 252만 명으로 역대 최고를 기록한 이후, 코로나19가 확산되었던 2020년(204만 명)과 2021년(196만 명)에는 2년 연속 감소했다. 엔데믹 이후인 2023년에는 251만 명으로 다시 250만 명대를 회복했으며, 작년에는 265만 명으로 증가했다. 올해 3월에는 272만 명을 기록한 뒤, 4월 271만 명, 5월 269만 명으로 잠시 하락세를 보였으나, 지난달 273만 명으로 역대 최고치를 경신했다.

국적별로는 중국인이 972,176명으로 전체 체류 외국인의 35.6%를 차지하며 가장 많았다. 이어서 베트남(341,153명), 미국(196,664명), 태국(173,710명), 우즈베키스탄(98,457명) 순이었다.

등록 외국인의 절반 이상은 수도권에 거주하고 있으며, 영남권은 317,286명(20.3%), 충청권은 200,939명(12.9%), 호남권은 136,990명(8.8%)이 거주하고 있다. 전체 체류 외국인의 연령대별 분포는 30~39세(25.7%), 20~29세(23.1%), 40~49세(16.7%), 60세 이상(13.5%), 50~59세(12.3%), 19세 이하(8.7%) 순으로 나타났다.
More than half of registered foreigners reside in the Seoul metropolitan area, with 317,286 people (20.3%) in the Yeongnam region, 200,939 people (12.9%) in the Chungcheong region, and 136,990 people (8.8%) in the Honam region. The age distribution of all foreign residents was in the order of 30-39 years old (25.7%), 20-29 years old (23.1%), 40-49 years old (16.7%), 60 years old or older (13.5%), 50-59 years old (12.3%), and under 19 years old (8.7%).

체류 자격별로는 재외동포(F-4)가 554,895명으로 가장 많았다. 고용허가제를 통해 한국에서 취업할 수 있도록 허가된 비전문취업(E-9)은 341,453명이었다. 영주권(F-5) 214,036명, 유학(D-2) 191,297명, 관광 통과(B-2) 171,063명 등이 뒤를 이었다. 특히, 관광을 목적으로 체류한 외국인은 전월 대비 29.6% 급증했다.
By visa type, overseas Koreans (F-4) were the most numerous at 554,895 people.
