Essential Mechanics of '-다고 하다' & '-(으)라고 하다'

                Indirect Speech Core Function: Allows speakers to report, relay, or cite statements, commands, and requests made by third parties.

Pattern 01 | Declarative Relaying

-다고 하다 (Indirect Statement)

Functional Purpose: Used to quote or convey a declarative sentence that someone else said.

Conjugation Rules:

Adjective + -다고 하다: 바쁘다 → 바쁘다고 하다 (Says that they are busy)
Verb (Vowel) + -ㄴ다고 하다: 가다 → 간다고 하다 (Says that they go)
Verb (Consonant) + -는다고 하다: 먹다 → 먹는다고 하다 (Says that they eat)
Noun + -(이)라고 하다: 학생 → 학생이라고 하다 (Says that they are a student)

Pattern 02 | Imperative Relaying

-(으)라고 하다 (Indirect Command)

Functional Purpose: Used to deliver an order, directive, or request given by someone else.

Conjugation Rules:

Verb ending in Vowel + -라고 하다: 쉬다 → 쉬라고 하다 (Told to rest)
Verb ending in Consonant + -으라고 하다: 앉다 → 앉으라고 하다 (Told to sit down)
