To achieve high scores in the TOPIK writing section, it's essential to have not only accurate grammar and rich vocabulary but also the ability to use idiomatic expressions that add depth and logic to your writing. Following our last post on idiomatic expressions, today we've carefully selected five Korean 'proverbs' (속담) and 'four-character idioms' (사자성어) that will add wisdom and depth to your Korean writing. 1. 등잔 밑이 어둡다
의미: 가까이 있는 것에 대해 오히려 잘 알지 못하거나, 자신의 주변에 있는 문제나 상황을 제대로 파악하지 못하는 경우를 비유할 때 사용합니다.
Meaning: Used to metaphorically describe a situation where one is unaware of something close at hand, or fails to properly grasp problems or situations in their immediate vicinity.
