한국은 많은 네팔인들이 꿈을 찾아 새로운 삶을 개척하는 곳입니다. 2025년 5월 현재, 약 8만 1천 3백여 명의 네팔 국적 사람들이 한국에 살고 있으며, 이는 한국 체류 외국인 중 6위 규모입니다.

Korea is where many Nepalis are forging new lives, pursuing their dreams. As of May 2025, approximately 81,300 Nepalese nationals reside in Korea, ranking them 6th among foreign residents.

한국과 네팔의 공식 외교 관계는 1974년 5월 수립되었지만, 그 이전부터 불교라는 공통된 문화적 토대로 교류가 이어졌습니다. 신라 고승 혜초 스님의 네팔 방문 가능성도 전해집니다.

Official diplomatic ties between Korea and Nepal began in May 1974, yet cultural exchanges, particularly through Buddhism, preceded this. There's even a possibility that the Silla monk Hyecho visited Nepal.

특히 룸비니, 카트만두, 포카라는 한국인들에게 필수 트레킹 코스이며, 매년 수만 명의 한국인 관광객이 네팔을 방문하여 양국 국민 간 이해를 증진시키고 있습니다. 2024년 한국-네팔 수교 50주년을 기념하여 방문객이 더욱 늘 것으로 기대됩니다.

Notably, Lumbini, Kathmandu, and Pokhara are essential trekking destinations for Koreans. Tens of thousands of Korean tourists visit Nepal annually, fostering mutual understanding. More visitors are expected in 2024, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Korea-Nepal diplomatic ties.

서울 동대문 지역은 네팔의 작은 마을 같은 분위기를 풍깁니다. 네팔 식당과 전통 상점들이 많아 고향을 떠나온 네팔 사람들이 모여 안부를 묻고 음식을 나누며 외로움을 달랩니다.

• 세종학당: 카트만두 세종학당에서는 2023년 기준 약 500여 명의 네팔 학생들이 한국어와 한국 문화를 배웁니다. 한복 체험, 한국 영화, K팝 댄스 등 다양한 문화 체험 프로그램도 제공됩니다.

  Sejong Hakdang: The Kathmandu Sejong Hakdang, as of 2023, teaches Korean language and culture to approximately 500 Nepalese students. It also offers diverse cultural experiences like Hanbok try-ons, Korean films, and K-pop dance.
• 한국 문화 행사: 카트만두 등 네팔 주요 도시에서는 주네팔 한국대사관과 KOICA 주최로 다양한 한국 문화 행사가 열립니다. 2024년 수교 50주년 기념 K팝 콘서트, 영화제, 태권도 시범, 음식 축제 등이 큰 호응을 얻었습니다.
